UpTower is committed to making our website accessible to people of all abilities, including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and alternative keyboard input devices.
Ongoing efforts to ensure accessibility
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as our standard for accessibility. These internationally recognized guidelines cover a wide range of practices for making web content usable by more people. As we add new pages and features to our website, we check designs, code, and content against these guidelines.
Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We regularly test content and features against WCAG 2.1 Level AA and fix issues as we find them. Our team tests the site with tools and methods such as the Accessibility Checker WordPress plugin, color contrast analyzers, keyboard-only navigation, and Flesch-Kincaid readability tests.
Accessibility features on our website
- A “Skip to content” link so keyboard and screen reader users can bypass the main menu
- One main heading (H1) per page, followed by section headings
- Alternative text on logos, photos, and service icons
- Text names on social media links so screen readers announce each platform
- Text labels on contact form fields, with required fields marked
- Descriptive button text, such as “Talk With Our Team” and “Explore Our Services”
- Phone and email contact options for anyone who has trouble using our online forms
Where we’re improving
We’re currently working on these areas:
- Adjusting heading levels on the home page so sections nest in the correct order
- Replacing generic image descriptions with alt text that describes each image
- Rewriting vague link text, such as “Learn more here,” so each link makes sense on its own
- Hiding decorative graphics from screen readers
- Adding a note that explains how required form fields are marked
- Reviewing the job application form, including file uploads and fields that appear based on your answers, for keyboard and screen reader use
